Big Insurance companies versus the Agent
A person was in my office yesterday. They were buying car insurance. The person stated, ” I hope I’m not making a mistake”.
Well, I was alittle taken back. I asked what was meant by that. After listening to the reply I realized that this person and most people felt the same way when buying insurance.
“I hope I didn’t make a mistake”.
Most people buy insurance from a large company as this person did in the past. You might think there is nothing wrong with this and maybe not. But, more than likely if you buy from a large company, you will never talk to the person who wrote your policy. When you call you will most likely get a different person every time. This person is referred to as a customer service representative. What companies am I talking about? You know them, Auto club, 21th century, Geico, Esurance, Insweb, just to name a few. Now, I’m sure most of the customer service representatives are good at their job, but most of them aren’t agents. Unfortunately, when you call you will most likely get a different customer service person every time you call. And with that being said, you could get a different answer or incorrect information.
Hopefully, you won’t have any problems, or at least very few problems. But, the truth of it is, you are dealing with a company that is not agent-customer friendly.
When someone insures their car or home with me, thats just who they get each and every time they call, not a customer service person, not some person who doesn’t know them.
What does this mean to you?
Again, it means you have less mistakes or problems that could occur when you make policy changes or have insurance questions.
Imagine, talking to a different person each time with insurance questions. You would have to explain who you are, do you think that customer service person is going to look at your file to know who you are and give a good answer to your question based on not knowing you?
Well, I think you understand what I’m saying. Its the old saying, “you get what you pay for.”
Its better to find an agent who will know you when you call. The agent may represent large companies and small ones. But, hopefully, this is an agent who’s hands on and wants to be there for your questions and policy changes. Okay, so the agent may have to look at your file and then get back to you with the answer, but its sure nice to talk to someone who knows you , your family and your insurance needs.
