No Texting Law in Effect for California Drivers
California’s new “no texting” law went into effect January 1, 2009.
It is now unlawful to read, send or compose a text message while operating a motor vehicle.
If you are caught with this infraction you will be subject to a $20 fine. If you are a 2nd time offender the fine increases to $50. Keep in mind, you will also be assessed other fees.
