California Wild Fires

Insurance companies are closely watching the fires and high winds in Southern California.  Currently, there are three major fires, they are known as the Tea Incident, Sayre and Freeway Complex blazes.

Orange, Los Angeles, Santa Barbara, Riverside and San Bernardino counties are the areas that have been affected.

Most major insurance catastrophe teams have been put on alert to respond quickly to their customers who have experienced a loss.  Some companies have mobile claim units in given areas.

Most reporting centers are prepared to take claims 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Be sure to contact your agent or a claims representative if you have a loss.  It is critical that a claim is received quickly.

Your insurance company will provide important information in the event of a loss.

If you have any questions or comments contact your insurance agent or this author.

Motorcycle riding, what to wear?

  • Helmet

I don’t care if you’re riding on the street or taking a trip across the country, the helmet is an essential item needed if you plan on riding your bike.  The helmet will also help with wind noise and road debris.

  • Helmet shield or glasses.

You need to protect your eyes.  Other motorists could kick up rocks or other debris.  You don’t want anything hitting your face or eyes.

  • Riding Jacket and pants.

The proper jacket and pants will protect against abrasions and debris.

  • Gloves

Always wear gloves, even on hot days.  Again, gloves will protect against abrasions or debris.

  • Boots

It is always a good idea to have riding boots.  They support your ankles and help prevent slippage on roadways or at gas stations.

  • Rain-gear

I suggest you have rain-gear for riding in wet conditions.

  • Make sure all your gear is high visability.

Always wear bright colors.  The easier it is to see you the better your chances are of surviving on the road.

If you have any questions or comments contact your agent or this author.

Tips to reduce wildfire threat to your home.

As you know, wild fires happen every year.  Below I list a few pointers that you need to apply in order to protect your home.

  • Remove dead vegetation from around your home.

  • Clear areas between trees and shrubs near your home.

  • Create separations between plants on the ground and low-hanging tree branches.

  • Maintain a defensible space zone around your home that extends at least 30 feet from your home.

Make sure your address is visable to locate your home.  Keep rain gutters, decks, porches and roofs free of leaves, needles and other debris.
