Understanding CEA California Earthquake
Filed in California Insurance, Home Insurance on Jan.29, 2009
The California Earthquake Authority, better known as the CEA offers a choice of two deductibles, 10% or 15% for residential properties.
- A policyholder will receive the total amount assessed due to earthquake minus the deductible. You do not need to pay your deductible or even have it. Keep in mind, you will still be responsible to pay the difference to the contractors to repair your home.
- After an earthquake, the federal and state officials determine if a Federal Disaster should be declared. If so, Federal disaster money will be available in the form of loans and grants from programs like FEMA and SBA.
